TU Delft - AI*MAN-lab

Experience shows that excellent performance improvements occur in industry, education, healthcare, and many more applications, when AI and humans work together. On the one hand, humans use their instincts to provide effective and creative decisions in unknown situations and realize leadership and collaboration in team work. On the other hand, AI systems are capable of making fast, logical decisions with a scalable performance. However, the main goals of a human-AI team can only be achieved successfully when there is mutual understanding and transparency among the team members. The aim of the AI*MAN-lab is to develop the tools and methodologies for AI team members to understand humans and to be understandable to them, while making optimal decisions. To achieve this, we will integrate various methods from systems and control theory for making adaptive and optimal decisions, with knowledge-based AI for promoting transparency and mutual understanding. At a fundamental level, we will focus on developing algorithms for optimal decision-making of AI agents. Moreover, we will build logical models that will help the AI agents to understand their human teammates.
