Waar gaat dit over?
Nederlandse onderzoekers schatten de lopende snelheid van Tyrannosaurus rex 'Trix' met een nieuw methodes.
Researchers from the Netherlands have estimated the preferred walking speed of Tyrannosaurus rex specimen "Trix", using a new method. In this video, first-author Pasha van Bijlert explains the methodology & main findings, while showing the relevant portions of Trix's skeleton. The main finding is that the preferred walking speed of T. rex was slower than previously assumed, approximately 4.6 kilometers per hour (2.85 miles per hour). This represents a comfortable strolling speed, so the animal could move much faster if required. These findings have implications for foraging and other behaviours not directly related to hunting.
